Marathon

In the brave new world of extreme sports and thrill seeking, one sport stands supreme as the classic endurance event - The Marathon.

More attention will be focussed on this sport as the Athens Olympics approaches. It is run on public roads, and the men's Marathon is traditionally the final event in the programme of the Olympic Games.

Locally, on Sunday 6 June 2004 (Queen's Birthday weekend), the SBS Christchurch Marathon takes place. The event also incorporates a half marathon and a 10 km fun run.

localeye features various sites that marathon runners may find useful. The Christchurch Marathon Clinic is a running group which offers training to marathon runners and they also provide alternatives of 10 kms or less at most of their runs.

The Parsley Patch site has not been updated recently, but it still contains relevant information on running in Christchurch and Canterbury.

If you have trained hard and run the marathon, you might like a photo to remember your achievement by. Marathon Photos is a great site where you can order photos online, simply search by your name or the event.
