Walk Canterbury"Get in amongst it" is a classic NZ phrase about enjoying the outdoors lifestyle. One of the most popular ways we choose to do that is by walking and tramping. These recreational pursuits combine a number of positive factors: physical exercise, exploration of environment and scenery, and enjoying the companionship of others. So what do you do if you want to Walk Canterbury? There are many Web based resources on tramping and walking in this region. The Department of Conservation site is a good starting point, particularly if you are planning on getting out in the countryside. Canterbury - New Zealand's Walkways has information from the publication New Zealand Walkways and features a clickable map and details of walkways in Canterbury. There are also descriptions of walking tracks maintained by DOC. The Government portal links informs you of the things to know when walking or camping and refers you on to a variety of resources based with government departments. If you want to join a walking group, check CINCH (Community Information Christchurch) on Walking. Christchurch City Libraries also has a listing of Tramping and walking that includes tramping clubs and related sites.
