Ferrymead Heritage Park

The Ferrymead Heritage Park has been in the news recently as Tamaki Tours (the family company which created the popular Tamaki Maori Village at Rotorua) plan to establish a new village and South Pacific Cultural Centre there.

This month offers an opportunity for visitors and locals to acquaint themselves with this regional attraction. Every Sunday in January is a Summer Sunday. There will be live music and organised children's games as well as museum collections and the colonial house to visit. Train, tram, horse and carriage rides will be available for interested visitors. You can visit the  Ferrymead Heritage Park site for more information.

Other organisations and groups located in the Park have web sites. The Post and Telegraph Society at Ferrymead site features photos of the exhibits in the old Post Office building at Ferrymead. The Canterbury Centre For Historic Photography & Film Inc has a museum at Ferrymead dedicated to the preservation of the photographic heritage of Canterbury.

Ferrymead has a strong focus on transport. The Tramway Historical Society site contains information about vehicles at the Park. The Canterbury Railway Society site has details about locomotives, carriages and wagons as well as the Ferrymead Railway. The Historic Rail Vehicle Trust was formed to preserve the historic South Island Vice Regal Car A 1825 at Ferrymead Historic Park.

Ferrymead is also a popular venue for special events. The Cooperage Function Centre site has information about tailored functions held at Ferrymead Historic Park.
