Alpacas Come to Town

The inaugural National Alpaca Show and Fibre Expo will be held in Christchurch on October 9th and 10th from 9am to 4pm each day. The show is organised by Alpaca Association New Zealand and will be held at the Riding for the Disabled Pavillion, Canterbury Agricultural Park.

The best alpacas from around New Zealand will be judged by top-ranking international judge, Mrs Amanda den Bosch from the USA.
Displays of alpaca fibre and crafts will be a feature of the Show.

Waimakariri River clean-up
More than 17 tonnes of rubbish was removed from the banks of the Waimakariri River on Saturday 18th September by 168 volunteers.

e-Harvest Moisture Analyser developed for optimum silage
Crop & Food Research and EDAC Electronics have developed a new agritech product that takes the guesswork out of measuring moisture content levels of whole-crop cereals for silage production. It is also useful for measuring dry matter content of pasture.

It is part of a larger category called  Rural Business which gathers the web sites of the many and varied agricultural enterprises in Canterbury. This ranges from traditional meat and wool farming, to horticulture, seed breeding, nutraceutical companies and vineyards.
