The Waipara Vintage Festival

The sixth biennial Waipara Vintage Festival will be held at Waipara, North Canterbury next weekend (Saturday 20th September and Sunday 21st). There will be demonstrations and displays of vintage machinery and farming activities - vintage tractors, traction engines, farm machines, stationary engines and vintage cars. The festival will also feature Waipara wines and local crafts.

The Festival takes place in a field behind Weka Pass Railway’s (WPR) Glenmark Station. The Weka Pass Railway is a historic rural railway traversing the unique limestone beauty of the Weka Pass. It is run by the Weka Pass Railway, a voluntary organisation committed to the preservation of New Zealand's rail heritage. The railway runs across flat farm land and passes a large irrigation reservoir and vineyards before climbing grades as steep as l:50 ( 2% ) as it winds through the cuttings in the Pass.

The organisation's website has images and information from the 1999 and 2001 Festival. There is a multimedia archive featuring photos of trains and the railway. There is also the Weka Pass Railway unofficial site which has information on the Vintage festival.
