Hanmer
Springs & Queen Mary Hospital
Hanmer Springs is situated in a high country basin 385m
above sea level. The outdoor thermal pool complex of Hanmer
is a popular destination for locals as well as visitors.
In the recent New
Zealand Tourism Awards 2003, the Hanmer
Springs Thermal Reserve won the People's Choice Tourism
Award.
Another notable feature of Hanmer Springs has been the
national health facility for residential inpatient drug
and alcohol rehabilitation located there at Queen Mary
Hospital. After providing addiction treatment for over
30 years, it will be closed on 28 November as the last
patient checks out.
