Snow is go - The White Stuff

Yes, it is getting colder, and not so easy to save power when the mercury is dropping. But for those of us who love to ski, snowboard, and generally get in amongst the white stuff, it is all good. There are great web sites to connect you with what's happening in the world of Snow and ice

Snow.co.nz is a site hosted in Christchurch that has up to the hour condition reports for ski and snowboard areas. Many ski fields have their own sites.  They may also feature a webcam, giving you the opportunity to take a look at the snow conditions (see the Mt Hutt Web cam for ecample).

Current opening dates: Broken River Sat 28 June; Craigieburn Sat 12 July ; Mt Cheeseman Sun 29 June; Mt Hutt Weds 18 June; Mt Lyford Sat 21 June; Mt Olympus Sun 13 July; Porter Heights Tues 1 July; Temple Basin Tues 1 July.

If you are looking for a soothing experience rather  than the physicality of the slopes, don't forget the alpine village of Hanmer Springs for a more relaxing kind of winter treat. There is nothing like sitting in a hot pool as snowflakes fall gently about you ...
