Science and Technology Whizzkids Show Their Talents

Nappies to compost, automatic fish feeders, self pasting toothbrushes and ecological audits of the Heathcote River are just some of the smart work that has created winners from budding scientists, engineers and technicians in the Canterbury region in past Science Fairs and Young Inventionz competitions.

The winter months in Christchurch see the culmination of months of detailed work and experimentation as many determined young people turn their bright ideas into the reality of show exhibits. The CPIT Young Inventionz competition was held in June, awarding prizes for general inventions, and special robotic and recycling awards.

Next up is the Lincoln University sponsored Canterbury Westland Science and Technology Fair. Winning exhibits can proceed to National and International Science and Technology Events. Christchurch student Natalie Crimp made it all the way to the 2004 San Diego Science and Technology Fair with her project to compost disposable nappies. Judging is on 22nd August and projects will be on display on Monday 23rd August  at the Christchurch Convention Centre.
