Keeping up with the kids
School
holidays are here! If
you want to amuse the kids over the holidays, don't forget TV2
KidsFest. for those under 12. They can
learn Karate,
have fun bouncing on a trampoline,
gaze at the night sky through a
real telescope, make
chocolates and yummy fudge or learn how to dance
like their favourite popstar.
This time of year is one when parents and caregivers
may need some information or assistance, and there are
many resources and organisations to help out. Check
out the Christchurch
Parenting Directory. The
Christchurch City Council produced this comprehensive
directory of Parenting Programmes and Support Services
back in 2000, and is in the process of producing a 2004
edition. Relevant organisations can submit
their details if they wish to be listed.
Parenting
Week takes place this year from 13-22 August. It
aims to make Christchurch
a better place for children and their families, a place
where parents/caregivers/whanau feel empowered and supported
and all children feel loved. Events are held at various
locations around the city and include family activities,
seminars & workshops, exhibitions, open days and
displays. Programmes will be available for all Council
service centres and libraries and various Community and
Government organisations from mid July.
