The Government Portal

The aim of the portal http://www.govt.nz is to help people find information and services provided by New Zealand government organisations, local councils and some community organisations. The portal links directly to the relevant parts of government and council websites. There is an A-Z listing of government agencies that will enable the user to quickly find the agency they are seeking. Users can also search for services by topic, using a categorisation scheme or an A-Z listing.

There is a particularly useful section called Things to know when .... It brings together relevant information on what to do when:

  • Having a baby
  • Starting school
  • Relationships break down
  • There's a death in the family

  • Walking or camping
  • Wanting to live or work in New Zealand

Rates and Valuations

Getting things done has a section on Rates & Valuations . This is a useful starting point if you need to know anything about rates and property valuations .

Each of the local Councils has a web page with rates related information. The pages include such features as rating databases - you can look up a particular property and see what rates are payable on the property.  You can check up on various payment options available.
