The Ngai Tahu Claim

Maori Language week was celebrated from 28 July to 3 August and it saw Christchurch City Libraries launch Te Kereme - a selective index to the Ngai Tahu claim. Te Kereme provides volume and page number references to the material from the Ngai Tahu Maori Trust Board Claim before the Waitangi Tribunal which is held in the Nga Pounamu Maori Centre of the Central City Library.

localeye categories Maori History and Genealogy/Whakapapa contain useful links into Ngai Tahu information. Some of the significant resources listed include:

  • Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu - The iwi's website includes a history of the claims process as well as information on current business and developments. There is a Claim History Overview detailing the history of the Ngai Tahu claim. Information from Te Karaka magazine's 1997 special editon covers the settlement process, offer and the Crown's apology.
  • The Ngai Tahu Report Volume I - III - Full text reports on the Ngai Tahu claim to the Waitangi Tribunal.
