Aranui
On 26 March, Christchurch East MP Lianne Dalziel officially
opened the Aranui
Community Trust's new premises at 37 Hampshire Street.
The Trust will be offering community help as well as pointing
people in the right direction for help with issues relating
to health, employment, training, and services for children,
youth and families.
This is one of several community advancement projects
that have been identified through the Aranui
Community Renewal project, a partnership between the
Trust, Christchurch City Council and Housing NZ Corporation
that aims:
- to enhance Aranui as a good place to live
- to broaden the capacity of the community to take greater
ownership of Aranui's future
- to improve the physical environment
- to improve housing management
- to deliver sustainability

Community Profile from Statistics New Zealand features
a range of information from the 2001 Census - 27.7 percent
of people in Aranui were under the age of 15 years,
compared with 19.3 percent in Christchurch City and
22.7 percent for all of New Zealand

- Aranui Family Festival - Last year's festival
starred Scribe and Auckland band Ardijah. Affirm promotes
Aranui and seeks to build pride whilst celebrating diversity
- it is the event through which the Aranui Community
Trust aims to engage the community, build the capacity,
and enhance the well being of the people

Advocacy Team - This Christchurch City Council Community
Board covers Aranui and the suburbs of Burwood, Dallington,
Shirley, Parklands, New Brighton, Bexley, and Wainoni
Community Initiatives
The Aranui
Community Renewal project is one of many community
initiatives listed in localeye. These schemes throughout
Christchurch and Canterbury are aimed at improving and
