Aranui

On 26 March, Christchurch East MP Lianne Dalziel officially opened the Aranui Community Trust's new premises at 37 Hampshire Street. The Trust will be offering community help as well as pointing people in the right direction for help with issues relating to health, employment, training, and services for children, youth and families.

This is one of several community advancement projects that have been identified through the Aranui Community Renewal project, a partnership between the Trust, Christchurch City Council and Housing NZ Corporation that aims:

  • to enhance Aranui as a good place to live
  • to broaden the capacity of the community to take greater ownership of Aranui's future
  • to improve the physical environment
  • to improve housing management
  • to deliver sustainability

Other Aranui resources :

  • The Aranui Community Profile from Statistics New Zealand features a range of information from the 2001 Census - 27.7 percent of people in Aranui were under the age of 15 years, compared with 19.3 percent in Christchurch City and 22.7 percent for all of New Zealand
  • Affirm - Aranui Family Festival - Last year's festival starred Scribe and Auckland band Ardijah. Affirm promotes Aranui and seeks to build pride whilst celebrating diversity - it is the event through which the Aranui Community Trust aims to engage the community, build the capacity, and enhance the well being of the people
  • Burwood/Pegasus Advocacy Team - This Christchurch City Council Community Board covers Aranui and the suburbs of Burwood, Dallington, Shirley, Parklands, New Brighton, Bexley, and Wainoni
