Backgrounder - Cathedral Square Redevelopment Final Stage

Find out what has been proposed for the final stage of the Cathedral Square redevelopment. The Christchurch City Council website has a special section devoted to the redevelopment project. This includes plans of the proposed changes and aerial photographs of the Square.

The final development - stage 5 -  looks at the development of the north-west corner of the Square, between Worcester Street and Colombo Street. It is the corner of the Square where most of the bus-stops used to be, and is home to a range of businesses including the Tower building (the old Government Life building), Chancery Arcade and DFS Galleria. Submissions closed 22 August 2003. and since then the submissions have been heard by the council's Sustainable Transport and Utilities Committee. Further details of the committee's decisions can be found in the agenda of the committee's meeting on 16th March.

Buried Treasures

Spotlight on some localeye resources ...

As Autumn begins city dwellers start to think of indoors activities - follow up the cities cultural life over the next few months - films, concerts, art exhibitions.

The localeye Arts, Music and Culture category is packed full of useful links including the Artistspace Billboard which includes news and a calendar of a wide range of artistic events happening in Christchurch.

Subcategories include links to Art Galleries, Film and Cinemas, Music and Musicians and Theatre and Performing Arts. All include links to events which will keep city dwellers entertained (and warm) over the cooler months.

Things to look forward to include the Christchurch City Choir Go For Baroque  and  King Lear at the Court Theatre . Check out contemporary art at the Physics Room  and the interesting plays staged by the students at the Hagley Theatre School
